Our History

HomeFront Church started in 2003 as a completely new church in a completely new building. Right from the start, HomeFront Church is unique in a number of ways.
First of all, we “inherited” (article) a brand-spanking-new building. The building is located on the corner of 44th and 8th in Jenison, just two miles west of RiverTown Crossings Mall.
Secondly, even though HomeFront is a young church, it actually has existed since 1897, and was formerly known as Maple Hill United Brethren Church. For over a hundred years Maple Hill Church has made a positive impact on our community and has served as a beacon of God’s love. In 1997, just days before its hundred year anniversary, lightning struck the former church building and burnt it to the ground (view article). It was then that the church began to build a new building. During the construction of the new building an important decision was made regarding the future of the church. The decision was to treat the church as a “restart,” that is, to disband the church and stop having services so that it could become a “new church plant.” We decided, while honoring our past, to take on a new outreach-oriented mission with a new contemporary model of ministry and a new name…HomeFront Church!
HomeFront is unique because of our Mission and Values. We hope that you will take some time to read our mission & values statements to find out more about who we are and what makes us tick. We want to invite you to consider being a part of our church family. We’re looking for some passionate people to help us be a different kind of church.
